SUMMARY:HCD Webinar: Strobel House: Permanent Supportive Housing as a Bridge to Stability
DESCRIPTION:Presented by AIA Housing and Development \nRegister \nThis course uses the Strobel House case study to examine a steppingstone housing continuum addressing houselessness through phased care. Students explore Permanent Supportive Housing design\, trauma‑informed strategies\, and site selection that strengthens community integration. Emphasis includes residential unit design that fosters stability\, safety\, and resident growth\, highlighting PSH as a bridge to long‑term independence. \nLearning Objectives\n1. Review the steppingstone approach in housing to address issues of houselessness using multiple housing types as a phased continuum of care. This includes Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) as one of the steps. Social and economic implications of housing for special populations. Providing safe an inspiring design for residents. Separations of housing types to promote transition. 2. Importance of Site Selection to provide community assets that support these residents. Review Design Strategies to design PSH to provide long-term\, community-integrated housing paired with ongoing support for individuals with complex chronic challenges.\n3. Using principles of trauma Informed Design and strategies to support the residential spaces of PSH.\n4. We will review residential unit design to support PSH programs that support the quality of life of residents. We will review spaces and programs that nurture meaningful connections\, incentives\, and activities for residents to continue their growth. \nThe webinar is part of a series produced by the AIA Right-to-Housing Working Group. In each episode\, we ask: “What does the right to housing mean in practice?” and “How can architects contribute?” \nCES: 1 HSW
