SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Healthy Homes: Sheridan Small Home Virtual Tour\, Providence RI
DESCRIPTION:1 LU|HSW \nThis week’s webinar is presented by CLEAResult \nCourse Description:\nThis innovative 5-unit project was designed by RISD students and is being built by ONE Neighborhood Builders in partnership with apprentices from Building Futures. All 5 units are in different stages of construction and are on track to officially certify as Passive House. This interactive presentation brought to you by Jon Erickson\, the Passive House Verifier for the project\, will include a virtual tour and drone footage and will cover: \n\nPassive House Certification\nHigh performance construction techniques\nThe building science behind it.\n\nLearning Objectives:\n\nDesign concepts using style and site renderings.\nThe process from the foundation slab to finished roof with video virtual walkthroughs. Participants will learn about exceptional air tightness & mechanical ventilation\, roust insulation that consists of a continuous layer and very good windows. They will take way how these structures are constructed\, tested and verified.\nPHIUS+ certification requirements\, how they are achieved and the benefits behind the concept and build.\nHow a multitude of funding recourses can be coordinated to make projects happen. – Sheridan Small Homes is a recipient of Zero Energy for the Ocean State (ZEOS) funding from the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources (OER) & Rhode Island Housing (RIH) and is receiving incentives and technical support such as trades trainings\, Energy Star and DOE ZER certification and Passive House Verifier services through National Grid’s Residential New Construction Program and Zero Energy\n\nRegister Now

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: The Neurobiology of Biophilia & Spatial Cognition
DESCRIPTION:1 LU|HSW\, LEED (GBCI) and IDCEC \nThis week’s THURSDAY webinar is presented by Sky Factory \nCourse Description:\nThis course explores the neurobiology behind Biophilia’s most healing attribute: a visual connection to nature\, which also happens to be the feature with the most robust peer-reviewed research backing its therapeutic qualities. We learn about the connection between the immune system and sensory processing\, as well as how environmental features precipitate a neural chemistry that modulates our attraction/aversion to the built environment. The course unveils the healing potential of indoor sky illusions and how cognitive mechanisms map out our body’s location in relation to our immediate surroundings\, as well as to perceived connections to nature. This understanding of how distinct areas of the brain assemble our embodied sense of place provide valuable insights in the design of enclosed interiors for human wellness. \nLearning Objectives:\nAt the end of this course\, participants will be able to: \n\nExplain our physiology’s waking rest-activity cycle and how our surroundings help our psychophysiology recharge throughout the day.\nList the environmental patterns that trigger somatic markers––physiological memories that well up as emotions\, which generate a powerful sense of place.\nExplain the role distinct cortical regions play in locating our body in relation to our surroundings.\nDefine the neural pathways that trigger the release of endorphins when key environmental features are perceived\, as well as their role in human wellness.\nDiscuss the implications of hemispheric dominance in visual processing and how the type of attention we pay alters our experience of our surroundings.\nDescribe the role that place cells\, natural environments\, and memories all play in evoking a sense of place\, and how biophilic illusions enhance enclosed interiors.\n\nRegister Now

SUMMARY:WEBINBAR: Managing Condensation and Thermal Performance with Continuous Insulation
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW \nThis week’s TUESDAY webinar is offered by Huber Engineered Woods a chapter partner. \nCourse Description:\nBuilding codes and green building standards are continuing to raise the bar on energy efficiency and high performance in buildings. In wood-framed buildings designing for thermal and moisture management in wall cavities\, as well as air tightness of the building enclosure\, are all core components to creating advanced building enclosures.  This presentation will discuss the need for exterior insulation to manage heat transfer and reduce condensation I exterior walls by providing step-by-step examples of how to determine the amount of continuous insulation required to meet prescriptive code requirements depending on climate zone. \nLearning Objectives:\n\nExplain the concept of thermal bridging and how it impacts building energy usage in green and sustainable building design.\nDefine the commercial and residential wood frame wall insulation requirements found in the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)\nExplain how condensation forms in wall cavities and investigate strategies ot mitigate risk of damage to construction while maintaining sustainable and healthy indoor environments.\nIdentify the practical green building characteristics of continuous insulation as the part of the exterior wall sheathing compared with other alternatives.\n\nRegister Now
