SUMMARY:Pride in Preservation: The 29th Annual R.I. Statewide Historic Preservation Conference
DESCRIPTION:Statewide leaders and mom-and-pop shopkeepers are urging Rhode Islanders to take pride in the local and homegrown. “Rhode Island: It’s All in Our Backyard” proclaims a recent statewide media campaign created by the Rhode Island Foundation. Preservationists get the message. After all\, historic preservation is all about taking pride in local places and working to reuse\, restore\, and interpret. \nAnd where better to talk about pride of place than Warren? Its citizens and business leaders rallied to preserve the working waterfront. Homeowners and government officials developed a voluntary historic district and a demolition ordinance to protect historic properties. Artists\, shopkeepers\, and entrepreneurs have established Warren as a creative and cultural hub in the East Bay. There is a lot to be proud of in the smallest town in the smallest county in the smallest state in the nation. \nClick here for more information.

SUMMARY:EPC Construction Tour: Boothden
DESCRIPTION:Location: 357 Indian Avenue\, Middletown\, RI 02842\n{{boothden{{The AIAri Emerging Professionals Committee would like to invite you to join us in Middletown\, RI on June 24\, 2014 for a tour of Boothden.  Steeped in history\, Boothden is a beautiful example of custom residential architecture that has recently had new life breathed into it with the help of Andreozzi Architects. \nBoothden was originally constructed in the Queen Anne Stick Style in 1883 for Edwin Booth\, considered the greatest American actor ever to live\, and brother of the infamous John Wilkes Booth. The original home was designed by the great architect and landscape designer Calvert Vaux (1825-1895)\, who with Fredrick Law Olmsted\, Sr. would collaborate on Central Park. Calvert’s son Downing was engaged to Edwin Booth’s daughter Edwina\, but soon after he was asphyxiated by gas fumes (from the gas lighting) before construction began. \nBoothden would enjoy a rich life with fame\, and endure a century of out of scale\, bad additions and abortive interior renovations. David Andreozzi was hired in 2008 to study the remnants of the original historic fabric and rebuild Boothden in the spirit that was originally conceived by Calvert Vaux. \nAdvanced registration is required. \nSpace for the tour is limited\, so please sign-up early as registration will be on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nTour will start promptly at 6:30PM.  Attendees are asked to arrive by 6:15PM. \nAttendees are to meet at the greenhouse located at the street. \nRegister Here \n$5 AIA Members/ $10 non-members
