SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Window and Door Design Solutions for Multi-Family Projects
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW \nPresented by Pella \n \nRegistration required \nCourse Description: Selecting a window and door system for use in new or renovated multi-family buildings typically centers on aluminum\, aluminum-clad wood\, fiberglass\, or vinyl windows. All are well suited for a variety of different design applications whether horizontal\, vertical\, or punched window looks are sought. Their installation methods are numerous and suited to a variety of building construction types for both new and existing construction. Regardless of the design intent or installation method used\, designing and specifying windows and doors into multi-family buildings\, yields broad design choices\, excellent energy efficiency\, resistance to rain and wind\, and lasting durability. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nReview the materials\, product types\, and design options commonly used in multi-family projects.\nCompare the design and performance criteria used by architects when researching\, designing\, and specifying windows and doors for multi-family and mixed use projects.\nInvestigate the design considerations for the use of window and doors in different opening types in multi-family buildings\, including punched openings\, large combinations\, entrances\, storefront\, and curtain wall applications.\nSpecify and design appropriate window installation details for new construction and renovation projects that meet human safety and welfare requirements while contributing to an energy efficient building envelope.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Zero Energy Homes Designing HVAC for Large Spaces with Low Loads
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW \nPresented by CLEAResult \nRegistration required \nCourse description: Few building professionals seem not to fully grasp the relationship between health\, ventilation\, and humidity. When designing a HVAC system for high preforming tightly built homes\, ventilation and humidity have a big impact on occupant wellbeing. A good system will more than pay for itself in reduced heating and cooling costs and designers have a responsibility to help ascertain healthy and safe environments. \nThis course focuses on the HVAC and ventilation provisions of the current International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and Rhode Island amendments including correct sizing and design of HVAC systems\, and ventilation strategies that ensure enhanced indoor air quality. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nThe “house as a system approach” to achieve optimum design for a low load home and will cover the importance of equipment selection and design considerations.\nProper sizing and system design. duct leakage (testing & requirements).\nVentilation strategies (ERV) for optimal indoor air quality.\nThe importance of contractor training and tenant/homeowner education for achieving a comfortable home that will stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Floating Hardwood Floors & Sustainable Solid Hardwoods\, 2 Mini Sessions
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW (.5 each) \nPresented by Stellar Floors \nRegistration required \nWe All Float On: The Advantages of Floating Hardwood Floors \nCourse description: Traditional solid hardwood floors are nailed or glued down\, and over the last 100 years\, there have been no significant technological advancements in the solid wood flooring industry. New floating methods have been developed leading to more flexible\, healthful\, and sustainable options in natural materials. This course is designed to teach participants the characteristics of floating floor assemblies that increase resilience to wear and promote adaptive reuse of flooring materials. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nLearning about new innovations in solid hardwood flooring and how they compared to the previous alternatives\, and positive implications moving forward.\nUnderstand how floating assemblies improve hardwood flooring performance while reducing the constant need to replace and discard floors every 5 to 20 years depending on wood species.\n\nWhole Woods: Why Solid Hardwoods are the Sustainable Solution for the Future \nCourse description:  Solid hardwood materials sequester roughly 1/2 of their weight in carbon and thereby represent a significant advantage in the construction of green buildings. Additional benefits are provided when materials are locally sourced and manufactured using wind and solar power. This course will explore the additional “carbon positive” benefits of innovative floating floor assemblies that are comprised of natural solid hardwoods. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nWeigh the costs and benefits of using solid woods in flooring applications\nDescribe the tangible sustainable benefits of using solid wood in construction\n\n

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Advanced Building Commissioning
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW \nPresented by CLEAResult \nRegister for this session \nCourse description:  Learn how the process of assuring that all systems and components of a building or industrial plant are designed\, installed\, tested\, operated\, and maintained according to the operational requirements of the owner or final client. A commissioning process may be applied not only to new projects but also to existing units and systems subject to expansion\, renovation\, or revamping. We will focus on the commissioning requirements found in the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and Rhode Island amendments. These standards help to ensure safe air quality for occupants. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nA general overview of the three prominent delivery methods (Design-Bid-Build\, Design-Build\, and IPD) and the role of the building commissioning agent will be outlined.\nLearn how commissioning ensures that you maximize the performance of your equipment through the “commissioning plan” and how this plan should outline the scope of work and define the processes such as testing and balancing\, sequence of operations\, documentation requirements and preliminary and final reporting.\nGain a better understanding of building commissioning by viewing actual case studies.\nWe will discuss why new building construction and large-scale renovation projects are encouraged to use the Stretch Codes to help maximize the financial incentives available from Rhode Island Energy’s Energy Efficiency Programs.\n\n
