SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Residential - Indoor Air Quality\, Your Health and a Healthy Home
DESCRIPTION:Presented by CLEAResult \nRegister \nThe quality of a home’s indoor environment can have a big impact on occupant health. The EPA estimates that the indoor air quality in a home can be 5 to 10 times worse than outdoor air pollution. Learn what contributes to poor indoor air quality\, the health effects of indoor pollutants on occupants and what can be done to improve the air in new and existing homes. \nLearning Objectives\n\nWe will explain the benefits of living in a home that has good indoor air quality and help architects evaluate the benefits of a ‘healthy home’ and its features that distinguish it.\nDistinguish common indoor air pollutant\nIdentify respiratory and neurological problems that indoor air quality can impact and review programs that promote improved indoor air quality.\nUncover educational resources on improving indoor air quality and identify features in a home that improve the indoor air quality.\nA summary of how Rhode Island Energy technical support and energy enhancement incentives and rebates will be discussed to help achieve improvements.\n\nHSW Justification\nHealth effects of the indoor environmental quality of new and existing homes and how the quality can be improved. \n  \nRICode R24-102

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Commercial - Introduction to Commercial Building Commissioning
DESCRIPTION:Presented by CLEAResult \nRegister \nThis session will highlight how building commissioning supports owner’s energy conservation goals across all commercial buildings\, from smaller simple buildings to high-performance complex buildings. During this webinar we will discuss actual project case studies highlighting how the commissioning process was executed and how it met the energy efficiency code requirements at each step along the way. \nLearning Objectives\n\nWhat is commissioning? How to verify and document\, learn about the value and what is required for green building What are the current commercial energy codes and versions.\nBuilding Commissioning is an often-overlooked chapter in the commercial energy code\, but it highly impacts energy performance of buildings. The most energy efficient equipment only performs correctly if it has been installed and controlled properly. Learn when and why commissioning is mandated and how\, once done accurately\, the benefits of commissioning on occupant health and wellbeing are recognizably improved.\nWe will discuss commissioning systems\, tasks\, plans\, specifications\, functional performance testing\, reporting and Operations & Maintenance\nLearn about Rhode Island energy codes currently in effect and\n\nPrerequisite Knowledge\nOccupants feel better\, in terms of both physical health and mood. Some examples of performance issues that affect comfort are temperature extremes\, humidity extremes\, excessive airspeed from ventilation\, unpleasant odors\, and noise. \nHSW Justification\nOccupants feel better\, in terms of both physical health and mood. Some examples of performance issues that affect comfort are temperature extremes\, humidity extremes\, excessive airspeed from ventilation\, unpleasant odors\, and noise. \n  \nRICode C24-101

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Residential - Ventilation Code Requirements & Compliance Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Presented by CLEAResult \nRegister \nThis course will inform design professionals of what they need to know about HVAC and the energy code. We will delve deeply into the issue of ventilation\, system sizing\, ductwork\, and quality installation\, with a particular emphasis on health\, safety\, and energy savings. \nLearning Objectives\n\nHear about the house working as a system and what to be aware of for healthy We will identify natural\, spot\, and whole-house ventilation\, combustion appliances\, indoor moisture and moisture control\, structural air leakage.\nParticipants will learn that half of the energy used in a home goes to heating and cooling and that making smart decisions about home heating\, ventilating\, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems can have a big effect on health\, comfort\, and utility bills.\nElevated levels of humidity can make cooling equipment work harder\, leading to more costly energy\nLearn about the RI New Construction requirements that requires the air tightness of the building to be measured using a blower door at a test pressure of 50 Pa difference between the interior and exterior of the home\, and that are reported in writing to the appropriate building official having jurisdiction.\nA review of how Rhode Island Energy’s technical support\, rebates and energy incentives will be discussed along with how they can assist with achieving improvements.\n\nHSW Justification\nExcessive moisture and pollutants in a home can threaten your health\, and can lead to mold growth\, ruin insulation\, and even cause structural damage. Along with this\, gases from combustion appliances\, like stoves and fireplaces\, can accumulate in a poorly ventilated home and threaten health and safety. \n  \nRICode R24-103

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Commercial - Insulation & Air Sealing IECC 2024/Envelope Overview
DESCRIPTION:Presented by CLEAResult \nRegister \nAnticipated adoption of the IECC-2024 energy code will require updates to architectural building envelope design details\, particularly those related to air-sealing and insulation. \nLearning Objectives\n\nIdentify code sections related to insulation and air-sealing\nIncorporate IECC2024 insulation and air sealing details into future designs\nRecognize proper installation during field observation\nAn overview of Rhode Island Energy incentive programs will be discussed\n\nHSW Justification\nThis presentation discusses Rhode Island’s anticipated adoption of the IECC-2024 code and its anticipated impact on design\, construction\, and commissioning of major renovations and new construction. SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Residential - Weatherization\, Insulation and Building Science
DESCRIPTION:Presented by CLEAResult \nRegister \nThis course will discuss the basics of observing what is needed for a home to be energy-efficient and safe for occupants throughout all seasons. \nLearning Objectives\n\nThe course will begin with insulation basics and then extend to all areas of making a home more energy efficient which will not only help the homeowners’ energy consumption but will also benefit their health\, welfare\, and the environment.\nLearn about the fundamentals of Building Science\, Insulation and Energy Consumption through Heat Transfer by Conduction\, Convection and Radiation.\nWhat is infiltration and why is it important? Learn about air infiltration\, air sealing\, and air quality by reviewing statistical figures on lack of insulation and moisture.\nNew Homes Existing Homes. Learn about construction basics\, vented vs. unvented attics\, HVAC systems and green misconceptions.\nA review of how Rhode Island Energy’s technical support\, rebates and energy incentives will be discussed along with how they can assist with achieving improvements.\n\nHSW Justification\nThe U.S. Department of Energy released the results of the National Evaluation of the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). The result of these studies provides the success of its endeavors. Energy efficiency is a primary focus of Weatherization\, and the evaluations showed that single-family households saved an average of over $200 on energy bills annually. Yet\, the most inspiring benefits of the program had nothing to do with energy at all. It’s a proven fact that the “non-energy” benefits associated with weatherization and retrofit activities are huge! The health benefits were some of the most impressive results to come out of the evaluations. According to these peer-reviewed findings\, participants in the Weatherization program can reduce the need for emergency room visits and other health-related costs\, saving families thousands in non-energy related benefits. \n  \nRICode R24-105
