SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Performance Based Design in Egress
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW \nPresented by Telgian Engineering & Consulting\, LLC  \nZoom Registration \nCourse Description:  Performance-based design in egress is especially applicable in building renovation\, addition\, and adaptive reuse where there may not be adequate egress. This course covers how egress models can be used to meet the required level of egress through a performance-based option. \nTechnical content covers facility egress and performance-based approaches that can be utilized to provide adequate egress during fire and other types of emergencies when the prescriptive requirements are either impractical or impossible. In performance-based egress approaches\, it is necessary to quantify the level of protection intended by the prescriptive code requirements for egress and then compare the proposed arrangement to a code-compliant arrangement to determine if the minimum code-mandated level of protection can be achieved. Fire modeling and egress modeling is used to determine how long a facility can maintain a tenable environment during a worst case scenario fire and compare it to the required safe egress time to understand realistically if an existing or proposed egress arrangement meets the minimum level of protection intended by the fire and building codes for emergency egress. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUnderstand the difference between performance-based design and prescriptive design requirements per the building and fire codes.\nUnderstand how to determine the necessary criteria for performance-based design options.\nIdentify the steps to a performance-based design approach.\nIdentify the roles and responsibilities of design professionals\, owners\, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in the development\, approval\, and acceptance process for performance-based design approaches.\nIdentify and understand the fire and building code language that permits the use of performance-based design and defines the minimum criteria for acceptance.\nUnderstand and identify scenarios in building design where performance-based design approaches may be appropriate.\nUnderstand how computer-based egress models and fire dynamic simulation models may be used to develop performance-based design approaches for egress.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Durability For Steep Pitched Roof Assemblies Through Vapor Management
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW \nPresented by Benjamin Obdyke \nZoom Registration \nCourse Description: There are several roofing underlayments available and determining the appropriate one can be based on several contributing factors – climate\, building codes\, roof type\, pitch\, and a variety of others. In this course\, we will explore the importance of considering vapor management in the roof and attic assembly\, in order to create a durable\, steep pitched roof. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nIdentify the performance criteria for different code compliant roofing underlayments.\nUnderstand why moisture management and vapor permeance\, under the roofing material\, are more critical as focus has shifted to unvented roof assemblies.\nUnderstand the limitations of current codes & testing criteria when specifying materials for high-performance roofing applications.\nRecognize the potential impact of improper detailing at vulnerable locations in the roof assembly.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Commercial Building Commissioning
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW \nPresented by CLEAResult \nZoom Registration \nCourse description: Occupants feel better\, in terms of both physical health and mood. Some examples of performance issues that affect comfort are temperature extremes\, humidity extremes\, excessive airspeed from ventilation\, unpleasant odors\, and noise. \nThis session will highlight how building commissioning supports owner’s energy conservation goals across all commercial buildings\, from smaller simple buildings to high-performance complex buildings. During this webinar we will discuss actual project case studies highlighting how the commissioning process was executed and how it met the energy efficiency code requirements at each step along the way. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nWhat is commissioning? How to verify and document\, learn about the value and what is required for green building certifications. What are the current commercial energy codes and versions.\nBuilding Commissioning is an often-overlooked chapter in the commercial energy code\, but it highly impacts energy performance of buildings. The most energy efficient equipment only performs correctly if it has been installed and controlled properly. Learn when and why commissioning is mandated and how\, once done accurately\, the benefits of commissioning on occupant health and wellbeing are recognizably improved.\nWe will discuss commissioning systems\, tasks\, plans\, specifications\, functional performance testing\, reporting\, and Operations & Maintenance manuals.\nLearn about Rhode Island energy codes currently in effect and amendments.
