SUMMARY:WEBINAR: From Awareness to Action: A Practical Guide to Decarbonization and Environmental Compliance
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW \nPresented by Existing Conditions\, A Chapter Partner \nRegister \nCourse description: Multiple waves of economic and regulatory influence are pushing the building industry to decarbonize. In New York City\, for example\, building operations are responsible for 71% of greenhouse gas emissions. And starting in 2024\, New York City’s Local Law 97\, or Climate Mobilization Act\, will establish fines on buildings that do not meet energy efficiency requirements. Across the country\, the largest cities are setting ambitious decarbonization targets for themselves. The leaders of these cities see real estate regulation as one of their most powerful tools in their decarbonization efforts. In this course\, you will learn how to navigate the impacts of local regulations\, evolving tenant demands\, and shifting priorities in real estate capital markets. You’ll better understand the implications of climate legislation at local\, state\, and federal levels\, learn potential strategies to assess energy and carbon footprints\, and see how to ensure the health\, safety\, and well-being of building occupants and the local community. Participants in this course will learn more about cutting-edge tools and technologies to gain situational awareness of assets and establish sustainability baselines. \nLearning objectives: \n\nExplore tools and technologies available to gain situational awareness of assets and establish a baseline for future sustainability efforts. SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Weatherization\, Insulation and Building Science\, Residential
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW \nPresented by CLEAResult \nRegister \nCourse description: The U.S. Department of Energy released the results of the National Evaluation of the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). The result from these studies provides the success of its endeavors. Energy efficiency is a primary focus of Weatherization\, and the evaluations showed that single-family households saved an average of over $200 on energy bills annually. Yet\, the most inspiring benefits of the program had nothing to do with energy at all. It’s a proven fact that the “non-energy” benefits associated with weatherization and retrofit activities are huge! The health benefits were some of the most impressive results to come out of the evaluations. According to these peer-reviewed findings\, participants in the Weatherization program can reduce the need for emergency room visits and other health-related costs\, saving families thousands in non-energy related benefits. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nThe course will begin with insulation basics and then extend to all areas of making a home more energy efficient which will not only help the homeowners energy consumption but will also benefit their health\, welfare\, and the environment.\nLearn about the fundamentals of Building Science\, Insulation and Energy Consumption through Heat Transfer by Conduction\, Convection and Radiation.\nWhat is infiltration and why is it important? Learn about air infiltration\, air sealing\, and air quality by reviewing statistical figures on lack of insulation and moisture.\nNew Homes vs. Existing Homes. Learn about construction basics\, vented vs. unvented attics\, HVAC systems and green misconceptions.\nA review of how Rhode Island Energy’s technical support\, rebates and energy incentives will be discussed along with how they can assist with achieving improvements.\n\n
