Currently the bylaws require the Chapter to hold regular meetings 6 times a year (in addition to the annual meeting).  The bylaws also require the Chapter’s Board of Directors to meet monthly (excluding summer). This proposal removes the regular meeting requirement for Chapter meetings. This proposal also reduces the required number of Board meetings to minimum of 6\, with 3 to be in the first half of the year\, and 3 to be in the second half of the year. \n1:30-2:45WHAT CAN WE DO?: Leveraging our Role as Architects to Shape a More Resilient Future Albert Garcia\, AIA and Christine West\, AIA\, KITE Architects  \n}}kite-architects-bio-pic}}As architects and others in design and construction\, we generally have an informed perspective on resiliency\, yet it can often be frustrating or overwhelming to see real change given the confined scope of our responsibilities\, or fundamental obstacles in the way of our efforts. The principals of KITE Architects will talk about strategies and opportunities they have found to have an impact\, both large and small\, from the intentional to simply fortuitous. They will highlight projects ranging from massive infrastructure improvements to work with non-profits to single family housing\, and fuel a discussion on what we all can do to make a difference.  1.25 LU/HSW Offered }}kite-logo-sm2}} \n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n2:45-3:00: Break  \n3:00-4:30A Panel Discussion: Resiliency in Rhode Island \n\nMartina Haggerty – City of Providence Department of Planning and Development\nStephanie Zurek\, AIA\, LEED AP – Union Studio Architecture and Community Design\nKenneth Filarski\, FAIA\, AICP\, LEED AP BD+C\, SITES AP- Filarski Architecture + Planning + Research – USGBC RI Chapter President  \n\nJoin our great panel of speakers for an engaging dialogue on Resiliency in Rhode Island. SUMMARY:Post-Installed Concrete Anchors
DESCRIPTION:You’ve seen the manuals and specified the products\, but have you installed mechanical and epoxy anchors? Have you wondered how much of a difference it really makes to clean out the holes before setting an epoxy anchor\, or how much edge distance effects tension capacity? You’ll use a quick cure epoxy so that pull-testing can take place 30 minutes after placing adhesive anchors. Come down for any/all of the event.  \nThis program is brought to you by the Rhode Island Structural Engineers Association. SUMMARY:Sharing Experience and Community through Design
DESCRIPTION:{{design-week-logo}}  \nHow do decisions about our physical environment shape our daily experiences? From ergonomic seating to lighting controls\, it is commonly acknowledged that the design of our surroundings has critical impact on productivity in the workplace and performance in the classroom. However\, in addition to these metrics of efficiency\, the design spaces of work\, learning and creativity can also enhance a sense of mission and shared purpose in today’s institutional\, organization\, and corporate settings. From the application of material and graphic strategies to the programming of unique places of interaction and engagement\, designing the physical environment is an opportunity to represent\, amplify\, and project the collective aspirations and activities of an organization and its community. \nJoin Ben Pell (PellOverton Architects) and Ted Peffer (iolabs) for a presentation of recent architecture and environment design that explore these ideas through spaces and surfaces . Ben and Ted will discuss the ways in which approaches to material\, form\, color \, graphics and scale have resulted in thoughtfully constructed environments that promote community through design. \nFREE PROGRAM2 LU / HSW \nAIA Rhode Island is excited to partner with DesignXRI on the organization of this program for Design Week RI 2018. \nLEARN MORE >\n{{designweek-pelloverton}} \nimage courtesy of Pelloverton
