SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Managing Condensation and Thermal Performance with Continuous Insulation
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW \nPresented by Huber Engineered Woods LLC a chapter supporter \nZoom Registration \nCourse Description: Building codes and green building standards are continuing to raise the bar on energy efficiency and high performance in buildings. In wood-framed buildings designing for thermal and moisture management in wall cavities\, as well as the air tightness of the building enclosure\, are all core components to creating advanced building enclosures. This presentation will discuss the need for exterior insulation to manage heat transfer and reduce condensation in exterior walls by providing step-by-step examples of how to determine the amount of continuous insulation required to meet prescriptive code requirements depending on climate zone. \nLearning Objectives: \nAfter completion of this course\, participants will be equipped to: \n\nExplain the concept of thermal bridging and how it impacts building energy usage in green and sustainable building design.\nDefine the commercial and residential wood frame wall insulation requirements found in the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).\nExplain how condensation forms in wall cavities and investigate strategies to mitigate risk of damage to construction while maintaining sustainable and healthy indoor environments.\nIdentify the practical and green building characteristics of continuous insulation as part of the exterior wall sheathing compared with other alternatives.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Rethinking Light\, Design & Human Experience in a Solid State World of LEDs
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW (AIA & IDCEC) \nPresented by BostonLightSource \nZoom Registration \nCourse description:  Light plays a critical role in the spaces we construct and for the people who inhabit them. As the built environment transforms from the assembly of inanimate materials crafted by a series of independent trade artisans to a world of intelligent\, interconnected solid state electronic devices\, new methodology is the imperative. \nThe advancement of LED technology has disrupted the electric lighting industry. As the rate of innovation continues\, opportunities rise to leverage LED sources in ways that were never possible with legacy sources. Unconventional thinking about light as a naturally occurring phenomenon allows for greater design freedom and reduced environmental impacts. This course explains basic and advanced optical theories of how natural and electric light can be used together to their maximum potential\, redefining many of the elements of design to enhance the human experience and improve infrastructure and connectivity. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nExplore the basics of advanced architectural anidolic daylighting strategies and determine how they can be deployed with LEDs in solid state lighting technologies.\nAnalyze human visual interpretation of light and color and how that affects perception in the built environment; distinguish different types of light spectrum control and discuss the color tuning abilities of tunable white fixtures to improve the comfort and well-being of people in the noted environment.\nIdentify application best practices for minimal energy usage in commercial and institutional settings using specific examples that focus on energy efficiency and sustainable design values.\nRecognize the role of a lighting system as the backbone infrastructure in the next generation of buildings that synthesizes all elements of lighting design – industrial\, optical\, electrical\, thermal and mechanical.
