SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Rhode Island 2024 IECC Commercial Energy Code Updates
DESCRIPTION:2 LU | HSW \nNOTE: two hour session \nPresented by CLEAResult \nRegister \n Course description: The Rhode Island House of Representatives passed H6101/S0855 Sub A\, which requires the state to adopt the 2024 IECC within 3 months of publication with no amendments. The new commercial energy code will impact current design and construction practices\, as well as compliance and enforcement strategies. This course will explore some of the most significant updates from Rhode Island’s current 2018 IECC- based commercial energy code (SBC-8 with RI amendments) to the unamended 2024 IECC. In doing so\, Rhode Island will skip over 2021 IECC\, jumping directly to the more aggressive 2024 IECC\, resulting in a steeper learning curve than usual. Rhode Island building managers\, designers\, contractors\, developers\, and code officials are encouraged to attend and learn about the most significant code updates. \nThe training will cover how the required code updates – particularly the energy code updates taken together with the mechanical code updates – are expected to benefit public health\, safety and welfare in commercial buildings. Occupants feel better\, in terms of both physical health and mood. Some examples of performance issues that affect comfort are temperature extremes\, humidity extremes\, excessive airspeed from ventilation\, unpleasant odors\, and noise. These standards help to ensure safe air quality for occupants. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nLearn about the energy code section of the Building Safety Act and changes to the Rhode Island Energy Code that will be required.\nExamine the impact of the upcoming code updates to the energy code compliance procedures which include Prescriptive and Performance.\nLearn about the upcoming energy code requirements for permit applications\, permit document sets\, and energy inspections.\nThe training will cover how the required code updates – particularly the energy code updates taken together with the mechanical code updates – are expected to benefit public health safety and welfare in commercial buildings.\nWe will discuss: • Building envelope – Prescriptive R-value and U-values for envelope assemblies and whole building airtightness • Mechanical – Equipment efficiency requirements including energy recovery and economizer requirements • Electrical – Lighting controls and electric-ready provisions • Plumbing – Energy conservation requirements. Enforcement – Inspection\, documentation\, and commissioning requirements.\nAn overview of the Rhode Island Energy Code Technical Support Initiative and Free Energy Code Technical Support will be discussed.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: From Awareness to Action: A Practical Guide to Decarbonization and Environmental Compliance
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW \nPresented by Existing Conditions\, A Chapter Partner \nRegister \nCourse description: Multiple waves of economic and regulatory influence are pushing the building industry to decarbonize. In New York City\, for example\, building operations are responsible for 71% of greenhouse gas emissions. And starting in 2024\, New York City’s Local Law 97\, or Climate Mobilization Act\, will establish fines on buildings that do not meet energy efficiency requirements. Across the country\, the largest cities are setting ambitious decarbonization targets for themselves. The leaders of these cities see real estate regulation as one of their most powerful tools in their decarbonization efforts. In this course\, you will learn how to navigate the impacts of local regulations\, evolving tenant demands\, and shifting priorities in real estate capital markets. You’ll better understand the implications of climate legislation at local\, state\, and federal levels\, learn potential strategies to assess energy and carbon footprints\, and see how to ensure the health\, safety\, and well-being of building occupants and the local community. Participants in this course will learn more about cutting-edge tools and technologies to gain situational awareness of assets and establish sustainability baselines. \nLearning objectives: \n\nExplore tools and technologies available to gain situational awareness of assets and establish a baseline for future sustainability efforts. Discover how to manage health and safety priorities on these types of sites as well as how to maximize the well-being of the public and future building occupants.\nIdentify opportunities for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy efficiency in buildings\, and comprehend the general strategies available to protect the health\, safety\, and welfare of building occupants through the use of reality capture and existing conditions surveys.\nUnderstand the implications of climate legislation that has recently been passed at the local\, state\, and federal levels.\nLearn strategies to assess and measure the energy and carbon footprint of buildings\, and discover how to reduce health and safety risks for both building occupants and the local community in doing so.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Healthy Building\, All Control Layers Working Together
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW \nPresented by Benjamin Obdyke\, A Chapter Partner \nRegister \nCourse Description:  Buildings have become a complex network of control system that must work together to prevent failure\, but often times these systems are incorporated incorrectly and lead to significant damage and unhealthy living conditions. This course will explore the four control layers in the building envelope and how they must work together to create a healthy home. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUnderstand why moisture management and drainage gaps\, behind claddings\, are more critical as we focus more on air tightness in the structure’s envelope.\nRecognize that a true air barrier is created with a continuous plane around the entire building envelope.\nUnderstand how all control layers in the building envelope work together to prevent failure.\nRecognize the importance of communication between trades\, design professionals\, and manufacturers are vital to ensure proper detailing in the building envelope.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Weatherization\, Insulation and Building Science\, Residential
DESCRIPTION:1 LU | HSW \nPresented by CLEAResult \nRegister \nCourse description: The U.S. Department of Energy released the results of the National Evaluation of the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). The result from these studies provides the success of its endeavors. Energy efficiency is a primary focus of Weatherization\, and the evaluations showed that single-family households saved an average of over $200 on energy bills annually. Yet\, the most inspiring benefits of the program had nothing to do with energy at all. It’s a proven fact that the “non-energy” benefits associated with weatherization and retrofit activities are huge! The health benefits were some of the most impressive results to come out of the evaluations. According to these peer-reviewed findings\, participants in the Weatherization program can reduce the need for emergency room visits and other health-related costs\, saving families thousands in non-energy related benefits. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nThe course will begin with insulation basics and then extend to all areas of making a home more energy efficient which will not only help the homeowners energy consumption but will also benefit their health\, welfare\, and the environment.\nLearn about the fundamentals of Building Science\, Insulation and Energy Consumption through Heat Transfer by Conduction\, Convection and Radiation.\nWhat is infiltration and why is it important? Learn about air infiltration\, air sealing\, and air quality by reviewing statistical figures on lack of insulation and moisture.\nNew Homes vs. Existing Homes. Learn about construction basics\, vented vs. unvented attics\, HVAC systems and green misconceptions.\nA review of how Rhode Island Energy’s technical support\, rebates and energy incentives will be discussed along with how they can assist with achieving improvements.\n\n
