SUMMARY:AIA webinar: Strategies for Safer Buildings in the Face of COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:Explore emerging research on COVID-19 transmission risks within the built environment and associated building mitigation strategies to re-open safely \n1.5 HSW LUs \nSpace is limited\, register: Live Course: Strategies for Safer Buildings: Re-Occupancy in the Face \nThis exclusive live course explores emerging research and recommendations on COVID-19 transmission risks within the built environment. It will also introduce AIA’s newest COVID-19 design tools\, including the Risk Management Plan for Buildings\, Re-occupancy Assessment Tool\, and interactive ArchMap. Together\, these tools provide building owners and design teams the process and information they need to create safer buildings. \nYou will hear from architects\, facility managers\, and public health experts how to leverage these tools to re-open the nation’s buildings while minimizing occupant health risks. They will detail the step by step process of applying these tools and share lessons learned from their own experience. At the end of the course\, you will know how to reduce COVID-19 transmission within buildings and how to apply a risk management process for all hazard types. \nThis course offers critical insight from seasoned professionals on how risk management can not only enhance occupant health and safety during a pandemic\, but also position firms for new market opportunities and enhance client services for a wide range of hazards

SUMMARY:Webinar: Newport Partners presents\, Getting to Zero Energy Ready: Details and Incentives for Rhode Island Homes
DESCRIPTION:1 HSW \nZoom Registration required \nCourse Description:  Rhode Island’s Stretch Codes are voluntary\, but they bring a lot of important advantages to all homeowners. Homes built to the program use less energy\, have less negative impact on the environment\, and achieve higher levels of occupant health and comfort. The Residential Stretch Code is based heavily on the US Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Homes program and the US Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program. The code also addresses indoor environmental quality\, building systems\, and appliance efficiency. Completed homes are ready for the installation of renewable energy systems and electric vehicle charging stations. \nThis presentation will cover the basics of Rhode Island’s innovative approach.   It will focus on Zero Energy Ready Home design\, but also give valuable information about how to maximize the many financial incentives available to builders and homeowners.  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUnderstand the business case for constructing zero energy ready homes. \n\n\nRecognize the home buyer and builder value propositions for purchasing zero net-energy homes in Rhode Island. \n\n\nUnderstand the DOE technical specifications associated with zero energy ready performance. \n\n\n\nUnderstand how to gain recognition for construction zero energy ready homes with the DOE Zero Energy Ready Home program.

SUMMARY:Webinar: AIA CT presents\, Addressing Bias & Equity in the AEC Industry
DESCRIPTION:Diversity\, equity\, and inclusion efforts at work can take many forms. However\, those efforts are often undermined by bias\, which may be unconscious. For any employer working toward a fair and inclusive workplace\, having certain individuals unfairly excluded or limited at work is problematic. In the modern U.S. workplace\, unconscious\, or implicit\, bias can affect our decisions and requires strategic thinking to ensure that employees and management are aware of it and committed to eradicating its influence. This webinar will discuss strategies to mitigate unconscious bias at work and how to influence that strategy from the top down. REGISTER 1.5 LU\, Free \nHosted by AIA Connecticut’s Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion Committee\, and supported by the AIA CT Women in Architecture Committee and NOMA CT\, the second of the 3-part series focuses on unconscious bias and equitable practices in the AEC Industry.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Unilock presents\, Commercial Outdoor Amenity Spaces\, Roof Deck Pedestal Applications
DESCRIPTION:1 HSW \nZoom Registration required \nCourse Description: Over the last few decades exterior buildings spaces have transformed with the architecture and demand from the users. No longer is the roof used only for utilities. There is now an expectation for buildings to create comprehensive activity areas and social space. More than a luxury item\, these outdoor areas are a highly desired amenity and way of life. With this transformation\, newer and modern aesthetically pleasing materials are being selected to create amazing Outdoor Amenity Spaces. There are more options than ever before including modern concrete slabs\, pedestal rated natural stone slabs and porcelain tile. Technical concerns with durability will be addressed along with an in-depth look at the customization process for concrete products. The connection between the roof and site paving will be examined and the options available for creating an inclusive design. \nLearning Objectives: \nAfter completion of this presentation\, participants will be able to: \n\nReview of the evolution of modern outdoor amenity roof spacers.\nEvaluate and determine which paving support system is appropriate for the project.\nDescribe the advantages of each paving support system.\nCompare and evaluate concrete slabs\,natural stone slabs and porcelain tiles for\nroofing systems.\nUnderstand the technical aspects including testing and strength of each paving system for roofs.\nEvaluate several pedestal systems available.\nExplore a comprehensive plan for roof and site paving.\nUnderstand the customization options for concrete slabs and pavers options available for creating an inclusive design.
