One juror called this an elegant hurricane-proof box. Other jurors appreciated its reductive compositional sensibility with large volumetric subtractions, including the angled additions that capture ocean views. A rare combination of elegance coupled with bare structural necessity. The residential use of high performance building envelope technology responds nicely to the harsh coastal weather conditions. And the building, through its construction and use of a rooftop solar array shows strict consideration put toward energy reduction. Overall the project is well-conceived and tightly detailed. If there was a way to improve the overall design, we believe it is in the way of handling the breakaway wall screening around the raised foundation.
