We felt this project was the best example of how a simple building program can be gracefully executed without trying to do too much with the design.
Jury Comments
– This new barn sits in the same place as the original barn, which previously burned down. The client wanted a real working barn, not just a garage with an apartment above.
– The over-riding aesthetic keeps the barn simple and straightforward, responding well to the land, and allowing the apartment to capture views of the surrounding fields.
– The result is a simple shingled rectangle with 3 major window groupings complimented by a series of small “punched” openings. These simple groupings keep the barn form pure while bringing the full expanse of the landscape inside
