Course description: This course provides an overview of two directly related aspects of energy performance related to windows and doors in buildings:

1. The recognized codes, standards and testing that establish performance levels and requirements.
2. The options for glass and window frames that directly determine the ultimate performance.

Learning objectives:

• Identify the relevant building codes and standards which define required energy performance for windows.
• Review voluntary programs that strive for higher levels of energy performance above the codes and have a direct impact on the owner/occupant health and comfort.
• Assess the range of glass options available and their relative impact and significance on energy performance and interior spaces.
• Compare the materials, quality construction and performance characteristics of window frames of different designs made from different materials.
