DesignxRI Clambake
Tue April 25, 2017 at 6:00 pm - 4:00 am
Aurora, 276 Westminster St., Providence
Clambake is a gathering for designers, creatives, and those who like design and want to learn more. It highlights the vast and amazing design talent in RI. We get together, network, and hear about some of the cool design work that is happening here. Two presenters from two different design disciplines present each month. Presentations are generally 15 minutes followed by Q&A.
Presenters:
Megan Billings, Kineteks
Megan Billings designs novel, bio-hybrid prototype medical devices and the automated/robotic equipment used to build them. She works with biologists, surgeons, and chemists to bring cell-housing implants into the lab and the clinic.
Megan grew up in her parents’ Jamestown, RI boat yard where she picked up a love of tools and woodworking from her mother, a classic wooden boat builder, and her father, a captain and fiberglass boat developer. She graduated from RISD with a BFA in Illustration as well as an affinity for computer modeling, rendering, and CAD CAM.
After a brief stint as a CNC technician in the marine industry, Megan joined Kineteks in Warwick, RI, in 2006. Now as the senior design engineer, Megan and her small team at Kineteks take medical device projects all the way from concept development through clinical trial production.
Seth Wiseman, ConForm Lab
Fascinated with systems and systems thinking, Seth has worked in a variety of capacities within the building and design industry over the course of his career. Working and designing at various scales, Seth seeks to uncover a unique logic for each project. Moving through the design process, Seth leverages and refines this logic to inform design decision-making, detailing, and development. This process, greatly steered through client input, creates a framework that informs and reinforces the design process.
Seth studied Building Science and Industrial Design at Appalachian State University and minored in Sustainable Development. After working in the architectural industry in NYC, Seth completed a MArch degree at Rhode Island School of Design. In addition to founding ConForm Lab, a design consulting business, with Walter Zesk, Seth runs Designwise LLC, a traditional architectural practice.
