Cape Cod is the land of boardwalks cutting through dunes to endless beaches. It’s also home to the Cape Cod Cottage, a classic American architectural form characterized by white cedar shingles and simple, low gable forms. Drawing on these two images, the Kyle House is a group of four small, shingled cottages strung together along a 110’ boardwalk. There is not really a front, side or back to the house; and there are no front, side or back yards. There is, rather, a series of indoor and outdoor spaces that become more private and defined as one moves through the site on the boardwalk.
