Comments from the Jury:
- This house and landscape is a great example of how design can embody the owners’ values of stewardship for the environment.
- Sustainable practices are evident throughout. Energy is offset with solar photovoltaics on the southern exposure. On the flat roof, green roof trays further offset energy use and help manage rainwater. A high efficiency geothermal system heats and cools the house. And electric car charging is accessible directly from the permeable parking court.
- The house is knit into the site by stone pavers that carry through the house at the entry to the screen porch. Stone walls, the chimney, and lawn steps further anchor the house.
- The tie between interior and exterior is accentuated by the activity of the great room that extends outside, with its unencumbered views to the water.
- As weather demands, life can shift fluidly between inside and out.
