EPC Construction Tour: Boothden
Tue June 24, 2014 at 6:30 pm - 4:00 am
{{boothden{{The AIAri Emerging Professionals Committee would like to invite you to join us in Middletown, RI on June 24, 2014 for a tour of Boothden. Steeped in history, Boothden is a beautiful example of custom residential architecture that has recently had new life breathed into it with the help of Andreozzi Architects.
Boothden was originally constructed in the Queen Anne Stick Style in 1883 for Edwin Booth, considered the greatest American actor ever to live, and brother of the infamous John Wilkes Booth. The original home was designed by the great architect and landscape designer Calvert Vaux (1825-1895), who with Fredrick Law Olmsted, Sr. would collaborate on Central Park. Calvert’s son Downing was engaged to Edwin Booth’s daughter Edwina, but soon after he was asphyxiated by gas fumes (from the gas lighting) before construction began.
Boothden would enjoy a rich life with fame, and endure a century of out of scale, bad additions and abortive interior renovations. David Andreozzi was hired in 2008 to study the remnants of the original historic fabric and rebuild Boothden in the spirit that was originally conceived by Calvert Vaux.
