“Form and Detritus” – A Lecture by Brian Delford Andrews

Brian Delford Andrews is involved in research, teaching and practicing of architecture. Much of his work revolves around drawing / representation and the relationship between modernism and history. He is currently working on a number of books, including a book about the Asilo Sant Elia by Terragni, the Getty Villa Competition Sketchbooks, and Michelangelo’s Sistine Ceiling. Besides teaching, he has his own architectural practice in Los Angeles. His architectural projects include competitions, commercial buildings and residential designs. His speculative research projects have dealt with the “Middle Landscape” or “Suburban Detritus” and have been awarded numerous ACSA Design awards, Boston Society of Architects Unbuilt Architecture Awards, a Progressive Architecture Merit Award and a Housing Award from Japan Architect.

His work has been published and exhibited extensively, including Progressive Architecture, Japan Architecture, Modulus, Area 49 and The Green Braid. He was the recipient of the Skidmore, Owings and Merril Travelling Fellowship in 1988 and was chosen as the Alternate for the Rome Prize in 1991.

He received a Bachelor of Architecture in 1985 from Tulane University. He studied at the Architectural Association in London from 1983-1984. In 1989 he received his Master of Architecture from Princeton University. He has taught at the University of Virginia, Syracuse University was the Robert Mills Distinguished Professor at Clemson University, also the University of Southern California, and at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
