Next Stop: Making Transit Work for RI

Fri March 17, 2017 at 8:00 am - 11:45 am

The Rhode Island Convention Center, 1 Sabin Street, Providence, RI 02903

Join with business, civic and elected leaders, transit riders, real estate developers and community advocates for a discussion of where we’re going with Rhode Island’s transit system and how we can most effectively leverage it to benefit more Rhode Islanders, our economy and our environment.

Hear from international public transit consultant Jarrett Walker.

He’ll share his observations about Rhode Island’s transit system, how it compares with other metros its size and offer some preliminary recommendations for shaping a system that gets more Rhode Islanders – and visitors – where they need to go when they need to get there, conveniently, quickly and affordably. We’ll hear how RIPTA and other public transit agencies are adapting to and leveraging new technologies and how some are partnering with the private sector to extend their reach or to create new transit-oriented development that helps to pay for transit improvements and operations.

Get updates from local officials on transit projects currently in the works:

Providence Intermodal Transit Center at Amtrak Station (PITC) – Julie Oakley, Supervising Planner, RIDOT
Downtown Transit Corridor (DTC) – Amy Pettine, Executive Director of Planning, RIPTA
Pawtucket / Central Falls Commuter Rail Station – Jan Brodie, Executive Director, Pawtucket Foundation
