Course description: In the world of architecture, acoustics is one of the most overlooked factors during the design process. This often results in visually appealing interiors with poor acoustics and unexpected complaints from patrons.

Through this course, we will discuss the importance of acoustics in both a legal and general wellness sense, learn about occupational noise regulation, and discuss the fundamentals of architectural acoustics. We will also showcase a real-world example of the applications of architectural acoustics.

Learning Objectives:

• Fully grasp the gravity of the effects excessive noise can have on auditory health
• Identify specific noise standards and regulations legally required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in an occupational environment
• Understand and incorporate the fundamentals of acoustics in the design process to maximize the comfort and health of clients
• Adequately assess the extent of acoustical expertise required on a project-by-project basis, including identifying cases in which an acoustical consultant is required  to create a healthy auditory environment
