Course description: Green homes use nontoxic building materials to help combat indoor air pollution. Unhealthy air inside a dwelling can pose serious health risks for residents. Natural ventilation in green homes, as well as mechanical ventilation systems that filter fresh air from outside, keep residents breathing easy.  As the costs of building to green standards have dropped, they are taking over the new construction market. This class will discuss the different green standards and elements that are common in green or high-performance homes. Knowing these elements and why they are employed it then becomes easier to understand the positive health, wellness environmental attributes.

  • Green Building Fundamentals and why green buildings are healthier for its occupants.
  • Green certification vs. Green Attributes and ways of looking at green.
  • Green building design and the construction process.
  • Major green certifications. The benefits and costs of building green.
