Course description: This course explores design strategies for new schools to make the most effective use of glazing for daylighting, natural surveillance, safety and security by incorporating Crime Prevention. Through Environmental Design (CPTED) guidelines. The importance of training faculty, students and staff will be stressed. Participants will learn how to select the optimal glazing for fenestration locations throughout the school, and how to select locks and access controls from proven lockdown technologies.
Learning Objectives
After completing this course, attendees will be able to:
- Incorporate CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) thinking into new school designs.
- Recognize that fenestration products are a crucial part of the much larger system that keeps our schools safe.
- Select the optimal glazing for various locations within the school.
- Select the types of locks and access control systems that best meet proven lockdown technologies.
