Course description: High-performance buildings are designed to be energy-efficient, healthy environments to live and work in. Zero-energy buildings are a type of high-performance building that generates as much energy as it consumes. These buildings not only save owners money on utility bills, but also provide numerous benefits including improved comfort, increased durability, and better indoor air quality. These benefits have been shown to lead to improved health, learning, and productivity outcomes for occupants of various building types.

This workshop will introduce attendees to the Zero Net Energy (ZNE) buildings, which incorporate efficient design, construction and onsite solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to produce as much energy as they consume.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about high-performance buildings that achieve high energy savings compared with standard construction.
  • Basic design, trends and construction approaches will be discussed.
  • Examples of New England climate of High-Performance showcases and NZE Buildings will be reviewed.
  • The provisions of utility incentives and free technical support will be summarized
