Course Description: This session will introduce attendees to the Zero Net Energy (ZNE) buildings, which incorporate efficient design, construction and onsite solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to produce as much energy as they consume. High-performance buildings are designed to be energy-efficient, healthy environments to live and work. Zero-energy buildings are a type of high-performance building that generates as much energy as it consumes. These benefits have been shown to lead to improved health, learning, and productivity outcomes for occupants of various building types.
- Basic design, trends and construction approaches will be discussed.
- Learn about high-performance buildings that achieve high energy savings compared with standard construction.
- Examples of New England climate of High-Performance showcases and NZE Buildings will be reviewed.
- Finally, the provisions of the voluntary Rhode Island Commercial Building Stretch Code, utility incentives and free technical support will be summarized.
