The sole judging criterion for the AIA New England Regional Design Awards was design excellence as determined by the jury. The People’s Choice Award was chosen by in-person and online voting with nearly 1400 votes cast from the public.

“The jury was excited by the overall high quality of the work submitted,” stated Vada Seccareccia, Assoc. AIA, President of AIA Rhode Island and jury liaison. “The jury recognized that architects in the region were tackling some important issues such as how to revitalize urban space and campus planning, and also commended their focus on sustainablity from adapting buildings to respond to climate change and the rise in sea level to energy conservation and site preservation.”

The AIA New England Regional Design Awards seeks to recognize the achievements of architecture firms working in New England. The AIA New England Regional Design Awards is hosted each year by a member chapter of the AIA New England Regional Council and the awards program is held in conjunction with the AIA New England Regional Conference.
