IIDA NE Providence City Center, AIAri, and RIASLA will once again join together to host the 2018 Green RI Sustainable Product Showcase on May 3, 2018. Companies producing earth-friendly building materials set up shop to display their latest and greatest products for industry members to view. In addition to exploring the tradeshow floor, attendees have the opportunity to attend CEU presentations, network with peers, and learn about the latest innovations regarding sustainable products from various vendors. The event also includes an Earth Day sample collection so attendees have an opportunity to fill up a box (or three!) as they conquer their spring cleaning of their material library and donate unused/unwanted sample materials at the event!

LEED, LEED for Neighborhood Development and SITES, The Sustainable SITES Initiative – Extraordinary Design Initiatives in Rhode Island’s Historic Green Buildings Act Presentation
Presented by USGBC/ Ken Filarski
In 2009 Rhode Island made history, being the first state in the nation to adopt LEED as public law in The Green Buildings Act, RIGL 37-24, authored by the U.S. Green Building Council Rhode Island. In 2017 The Green Buildings Act was amended to include LEED for Neighborhood Development and SITES – The Sustainable SITES Initiative into public law, authored by the U.S. Green Building Council Rhode Island. Just as the original 2009 Green Buildings Act was historic, the 2017 amendments to the Act again are historic as Rhode Island is the first state in the nation to adopt LEED-ND and SITES into public law. With LEED addressing the important sustainability of buildings, and LEED for Neighborhood Development addressing the sustainability of buildings and their neighborhoods, the built landscapes and green infrastructure of SITES have the have the unique capacity to protect and even regenerate natural systems, thereby increasing the ecosystem services they provide. This presentation will explore The Green Buildings Act and the tools it has to provide and deliver a holistic continuum of sustainable buildings, sustainable communities, and sustainable landscapes.
