Course Description: Windows and doors are an integral part of making great buildings. They help to define the architecture of the building elevation while providing protection from the elements, letting in light, and maintaining a connection to the outside world. They are also a key component in building safety and usability. We will look at accessibility guidelines, egress, and other code related issues in this overview of the different codes and standards you need to be aware of when making window and door design decisions.

Learning Objectives:

• Provide an overview of the organizations that develop the codes and standards governing windows and doors
• Review the fundamentals of window and door air, water, and structural performance
• Discuss the fundamentals of window and door energy performance
• Understand window and door life safety and accessibility requirements, and use in the enhancement of interior environments
