Course description: Building a home that includes long term durability, great indoor air quality, low energy use and waste minimization, provides a great value to the inhabitants. This course focuses on building envelope provisions of the current International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and Rhode Island amendments and how they impact design and construction details, material selection and current construction practices.
Learning Objectives:
- Low energy use residential homes being built in Rhode Island and other regions and how high-performance homes help with healthy living.
- Zero net energy (ZNE) buildings which incorporate efficient design and onsite solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to produce as much energy as they consume will be covered. Along with other high-performance homes that achieve high energy savings compared with standard construction.
- Basic design and Advanced Framing construction approaches will be discussed along with health and safety concerns.
- Finally, the provisions of the newly introduced voluntary Rhode Island Residential Stretch Code will be summarized.
